Hike begins at Tsikalario village. Tsikalario with Chimarros constitute the settlement of Zoodochos Pigi. It is a 20 minute drive from Chora and a 2 minute drive from Chalki. Apano Kastro and a cemetery of Geometric Period are some of village’s sights, you can find them by following Trail 5.

Leaving Tsikalario the route leads to Chimarros village. It goes through a steam and then moves past 4 chapels. The footpath continues and after 1.5 km you will see Agios Artemios on your left. Agios Artemios is a church of the iconoclastic period.

In the next 1 km the path leads to Agii Anargiri. It is a building complex composed by three churches. Near to Agii Anargiri you will find Paleologos Tower(17th century) and the Byzantine church Panagia Orfani.

The route continues to Sagri, a village that took its name from the french Sainte Croix (Holy Cross). Leaving Sagri and moving towards the Temple of Demeter you can get to Agios Nikolas (11th century A.D) via a side path.

Trail 7 ends by reaching the Temple of Demeter and Kore. There is also a museum near the Temple.

Suggestions:

  • Use closed shoes for this trail. Sneakers /  Hiking / Trekking shoes would be great.
  • Hiking / trekking poles are not required but they will be useful.
  • Bring a lot of water with you.
  • During summer start hiking early in the morning. There aren’t many places of shade to rest. Also wear hat and sunscreen.
